Practice spotting them
Tap the red flags in each conversation. Miss one? We'll show you exactly what to look for next time.
Set your family defense
Pick a safe word, print your wallet card, and you're covered. The defense experts recommend most.
The 60-second explainer
How AI scams work, in plain words
Scammers can now copy a voice from a 30-second video clip — a birthday post, a church livestream, anything. One quick clip is all it takes to sound exactly like your grandson.
The call feels real because most of it is real — your loved one's voice, saying words they never said. That's why listening harder doesn't protect you.
The defense isn't better ears. It's a plan: a safe word, a pause, and a call-back. That's what the next 20 minutes are about.
Make it a family night
How to run your 20-minute session
You don't need to be a tech expert. Just gather everyone around one screen and follow these steps.
Set the tone (2 min)
Say this: "We're going to play a game where we try to spot scammers. There are no wrong answers — we're learning together." Keep it light, not scary.
Play through 4-6 scenarios (12 min)
Take turns tapping the red flags. Read the "why" explanations out loud. Let grandparents go first — their instincts are often sharper than they think.
Pick your safe word (3 min)
Use the wizard below. Make it fun and memorable — "blueberry pancakes" beats "password123" every time. Everyone should know it by heart.
Print and post (3 min)
Print the wallet card and fridge sheet. Put the fridge sheet where everyone sees it. Save the safe word somewhere safe — not just in a browser.

Family safe word
The #1 defense experts recommend — and almost nobody has one
If a "loved one" calls in trouble, one question ends the scam: "What's our safe word?" Set yours up in five minutes.
- Pick your word. Random and fun beats meaningful — a stranger can't guess it.
- Practice the script. Say it out loud together, once, so it sticks.
- Print the wallet card. Keep it where you'll see it — until it's second nature.
💡 Do this one together at the kitchen table. It takes five minutes — and it defeats voice-clone scams cold.
Pick your family safe word
Choose a word your whole family knows — but a stranger never would. Good ones are random and fun: pickle-ferret, blueberry. Avoid birthdays and pet names.
Your word:
—
Practice the script
If someone calls claiming to be family in trouble:
- Stay calm.
- Ask: "What's our safe word?"
- If they can't say it, hang up and call your loved one back on the number you already have saved.
📞 "I'm in trouble — please help!" …now you say: "What's our safe word?"
Print your wallet card
Keep this card in your wallet until the word is second nature.
Tip: turn on "Background graphics" in the print dialog so the colors print.
Your safe word is saved only in this browser as a demo — write the real one down and keep it offline.
Printables
Stick these where you'll see them
Two free sheets, printed on regular Letter paper. The fridge sheet is your daily reminder; the action steps are your emergency plan.

Why families do this
Twenty minutes that mattered
These are the moments FoolProof was built for — real scam patterns, real families, real saves.
"Mom got the 'grandson in jail' call last month. Because we'd practiced, she asked for the safe word. Silence. Then a dial tone. She called me crying — not from fear, from relief."
"Our small group ran through the scenarios together on a Wednesday night. Two people realized they'd almost fallen for the pastor gift-card text the week before."
"I thought I was too smart to get scammed. Then the trainer showed me three red flags I'd missed in a text I got that morning. Humbling — and worth every minute."
Illustrative stories based on common scam-victim patterns reported to the FTC and FBI IC3.
